Contra-indications (health checklist)
 
There are three types of contraindication:
TOTAL - when massage should not be performed at all
LOCAL - when massage can be performed but not over the contraindicated areas
MEDICAL - when massage can only be performed once medical permission has been granted.
 
 
These restrictions are in place to protect your health and well-being.

 


For Massage

Total Contraindications
If you have any of these conditions, please do not book a massage:

* Fever 
* Contagious or infectious diseases, including any cold or flu (even if mild)
* Under the influence of drugs or alcohol- including prescription pain medication
* Recent operations or acute injuries
* Neuritis 
* Skin diseases

 
Local
If you have any of the following conditions, massage can be given but not over the affected areas:

* Varicose veins 
* Undiagnosed lumps or bumps 
* Pregnancy 
* Bruising 
* Cuts 

* Abrasions 
* Sunburn
* Undiagnosed pain 
* Inflammation, including arthritis

Medical
If you suffer from any of the following conditions, massage can only take place once it has been approved in writing by your GP before your treatment session.

* Cardio vascular conditions (thrombosis, phlebitis, hypertension, heart conditions) 
* Any condition already being treated by a medical practitioner 
* Oedema 
* Psoriasis or eczema 
* High blood pressure 
* Osteoporosis 
* Cancer 
* Nervous or psychotic conditions 
* Heart problems, angina, those with pacemakers 
* Epilepsy 
* Diabetes 
* Bell’s palsy, trapped or pinched nerves 
* Gynecological infections

 

For Indian Head Massage

Total Contraindications
If you have any of these conditions, please do not book an Indian Head Massage:

* High temperature, fever , swelling or inflammation
* Recent injury, accident or surgery to the head, neck or shoulders area such as whiplash, concussion, etc…
* Acute infectious diseases such as flu, chest infection or a bad cough or cold.
* Scalp infections.
* Food poisoning
* Under the influence of drugs/alcohol.
* Cancer and any other serious medical condition while undergoing treatment.
* Very high or low blood pressure.
* Osteoporosis, epilepsy, diabetes, spinal disorders
* Head lice

 
Medical
If you suffer from any of the following conditions, Indian Head Massage can only take place once it has been approved in writing by your GP before your treatment session.

* Cardio vascular conditions (thrombosis, hypertension, hypotension, heart conditions)
* Haemophilia
* Arthritis
* Epilepsy
* Asthma
* Dysfunctions of the nervous system
*Trapped/pinched nerve (sciatica) 
* Slipped disc

 
Local
If you have any of the following conditions, Indian Head Massage can be given but not over the affected areas:

 
* Skin disease
* Undiagnosed lumps and bumps
* Cuts, bruises, abrasions
* Scar tissue (2 years for major operation / 6 months for minor operation)
* Sunburn
* Hormonal implants
* Recent fractures (min 3 months)



For Facials

Medical
If you suffer from any of the following conditions, Facials can only take place once it has been approved in writing by your GP before your treatment session.

 
* High/low blood pressure
* Heart disease
* Asthma or sinus disorders
* Acne (if taking medication)
 

Local
If you have any of the following conditions, Facials can be given as long as area to be worked on is not affected:

* Hypersensitive skin
* Extremely vascular
* Acute inflammation or swelling e.g. stings
* Infectious skin conditions
* Cuts/abrasions
* Recent scar tissue
* Undiagnosed lumps
